My First Week

Aside from my McDonald’s moment last Monday, I had a great week.  I weighed in this morning at 449 pounds.  That is a loss of 9 pounds this week.  Not too shabby.

What I did right is changing my eating and started exercising. Unfortunately, my left leg really tightened up after Wednesday and I have not had a chance to work out since.   My leg does feel better this morning so I am going to do my best to get a good workout in this evening.

My goals for this week are simple:
  • Keep my caloric intake between 2000-2200 a day
  • Exercise for 30 minutes 5 days
The weekend was busy and I did not get everything I wanted to done.  did I get a food dehydrator.  I have wanted one for quite some time and I thought that it would be a fun way for my daughter to enjoy some healthy snack alternatives. So today I am going to pick up some fruits at lunch (cherries, apples and bananas) to see what we can do. I figure a handful of apple chips have to be a heck of a lot better than a handful of lays.

Working For The Weekend

Maybe it’s eating healthy, maybe it’s the exercise or maybe it’s a combination of both, but I have been feeling great for the past few days.  I stepped on the scale this morning and was shocked at the weight I have already lost in just the past 4 days.  I am really excited about what is to come but 225 pounds seems so far away.  So instead of setting my sights on the finish line, I thought that I would set a first goal of weighing less than 400 pounds.  Losing 59 seems a lot more obtainable at this point than 233. I would also like to get involved in a challenge...that sounds like a fun and motivating way to drop some weight.

This weekend’s plan is to get a spot cleaned out in the basement for me to exercise. Since there is snow on the ground, I do not see myself going outside to do much of anything.  I got a few exercise videos stashed somewhere in a box, a stationary bike tucked away in a corner and a weight bench that hasn’t been used in 10 years. Eventually I would love to get a gym membership, but before I go investing into more exercise possibilities, I should use the ones I also shelled out big money for already.  The one thing I did purchase earlier this week was Your Shape Fitness Evolved for the Kinect on the Xbox 360.  This game/exercise program has been kicking my butt all week.

I also want to take some time this weekend to read some blogs.  I want to get some new ideas for food and exercise and also get familiar people and their stories. Plus I got a lot to learn about the art.

Other than that, it’s NFL playoffs and home brewing this weekend.

Better Now Than Never

Monday morning as I drove into work after 10 days of vacation,  I did something that I promised myself that I was no longer going to do in 2011.  I stopped at McDonald's and picked up 3 sausage McMuffins (the usual) and ate them all before I pulled into the parking lot at work.  While I was eating them, it felt so good.  When I was done the guilt set in.

That’s how my eating goes.  When I am hungry for something, I’ll do whatever I can to get it.  After I am done eating until I am full, I feel bad about it.I have been this way for as long as I can remember.  It wasn’t until after I got out of high school and stopped playing organized sports that the weight started piling on.  Here I am years later and I topped out at 458 pounds. That is more than twice the weight I should be.  In fact, that is my long term goal…to lose a little more than half my weight and get my fat ass down to 225 pounds and be the hunk I was created to be.

My plan is quite simple…stop eating so much and start exercising. Well maybe it’s not quite that simple…but it should be, right?  I have been planning this for the weeks leading up to the New Year. My goals are actually quite simple and straight forward.
  1. Eat Better
  2. Exercise
  3. Drink Plenty of Water
  4. Plan My Meals In Advance
  5. Blog About It
  6. Get My Family Involved
  7. Have Fun
So if you want to join me along the way or offer some advice or criticism, please fell free.
